How to make an outdoor Christmas garland

Have you ever wondered how you can easily get the look of a fresh outdoor garland? Want to make an evergreen door garland to decorate your front door for the Holidays? I have an easy way to DIY an outdoor garland for your front porch that will take less than an hour to make. I’m sharing my foolproof way to create an outdoor garland that you’ll love without breaking the bank! Using faux garland and mixing in fresh evergreens, you can make your front porch beautiful and lush, too! I headed to The Home Depot Canada for all of my materials for an easy one-stop-shop!

Add fresh evergreens to a faux garland

The very first step I took was to clip all of my evergreens into more manageable pieces to add to the faux garland. I hung the faux garland around my doorway using the Command hooks linked above. They work well outdoors and won’t damage your door frame, and when it’s time to put Christmas away, I can remove the clips too!

When adding the fresh clippings, I use either the faux garland itself or the garland ties. Hot tip: you can clip the garland ties and get even more use out of them. I found I didn’t need the full length available.

I alternated the 3 types of evergreens and started from the center so that they look as though they ‘fall’ on either side of the door.

Adding berries to the garland

As the final step, I took the faux berry branches apart and spread them evenly throughout the garland using the same method as I did to add the evergreen clippings. Along the top of the garland, I also added a wood bead garland to give the whole thing a bit more texture and also contract against all of the green. This way the garland looks great during the day when the lights are off and at night when the lights come on.

To spruce up the rest of the front p[orch area, I also added two Norfolk pine trees, birch branches, and in an existing metal container, I added some of the leftover fresh greenery with twinkling branches - it looks SO great at night!

And just like that, this year’s front porch decor is all done. I love how fresh it looks, and that any colours can be added to this neutral scheme.

I’d love to know your thoughts on our green and white front porch all decked out for the holidays!
