Master Bathroom Makeover - Week 1

Well, I'd be lying if I said I'm not ridiculously happy that this day is finally here - the day I get to start sharing with you a master bathroom makeover that truly took a lifetime (ok, maybe it just felt that way), but that was also incredibly fun and rewarding to work on. I got to partner with Home Depot Canada, Delta Faucet, Mirolin and Homesense PLUS my good friends Dave and Joey of none other than The Brolaws, and we got to make some serious magic, bringing a builder grade master bath into a calming (but also super functional) oasis for Meg and Joe.Who are Meg and Joe? Don't worry, you'll meet them soon. For now, let me share the before photos of this space, and share with you some of the plans for how we're making this room look and feel completely custom using materials from Home Depot!

Builder grade bathroom

Has anyone ever NOT had to deal with one of these before? It feels like even just hearing 'builder grade' immediately makes me think dated, not functional, drab, and a bunch of other negative terms! Not because home builders are those things, but because usually, people are looking to revamp a builder grade bathroom from at least 10 years prior. That's what we were looking at here. Megan and Joey have a pretty decent sized ensuite, but the massive vanity with one small sink in the middle wasn't doing them much good. The shower was tiny. And the tub definitely took up way too much room!

Planning a semi-custom vanity

One of the first things I started working on was planning the vanity. Thanks to the super easy to use Eurostyle 3D planning tool, I was able to give Megan and Joey lots of options, and they were able to quickly visualize what the new vanity would look like. This also means the vanity gets to be fairly customized without the giant price tag! Eurostyle (available at Home Depot) has lots of great styles and colours (more on that next week), and they come in tons of sizes and configurations with drawers and doors.

Bathroom demolition

Now it's time to get to the demo! For this portion, I'll be directing you to this week's episode - that's right, each week there will be a new video for you to watch as we take you through every part of this process! This week: watch as Dave and Joey get cozy in the shower!

Come back next week and see which tiles I picked for this project, and what fish we keep mentioning over and over again, and make sure to check out what else is being revealed over the next 5 weeks for the One Room Challenge, including my very own front entry and hallway makeover!
