One Room Challenge: Laundry Room (Week 2)

Every time I do the One Room Challenge I swear to myself that I will be on time every single week and that each weekly update will have lots of new information.... Unfortunately that is NOT the case for this week, my friends. Though I knew what I was getting into this time around, being that we have two other room makeovers due before the ORC finishes, I was still optimistic. Insert eye-roll here.If you've been following along on Instagram, you know we have a master bedroom and kitchen makeover currently happening. Yes, the kitchen makeover has been ongoing for MONTHS. Isn't that just how these things go? As far as the laundry room goes, we have made some progress, and it may look small and insignificant, but it's there, and it's made a HUGE difference in how we use the room already. Here is where we started:This, of course, after the room was transformed already from being a kitchen into a laundry room. We love the flooring, which we got at The Home Depot. Yes, I chose a square tile, which seems to be surprising to so many people since that's a somewhat dated option for flooring, but I love it in this offset pattern and that light grey grout. The upper cabinets are sort of staying. I say sort of because we have plans to replace at least just the doors on them. And that brown island is going bye bye!In case you read last week and you're wondering which option I chose, I still don't know. Because of all the other things going on, I haven't actually made any final decisions yet. Next week, when the other two rooms are done I'll get to it! For now, you can see a rough idea of where the room is going:We did move the machines, and it has made a world of difference, since we had the dryer on the left and washer on the right previously. Why is that a big deal? well, with front loaders, it made switching laundry an even more daunting task than laundry already is because the doors didn't open into one another, so we are really glad to have this issue fixed and can now enjoy laundry a tiny bit more!To the left of the machines we want a simple shelving unit to hold laundry baskets. There will be a wood countertop above the machines for a work surface, and the sink will be immediately to the right as you walk into the room. To the right will be a future pantry, because we desperately need the space! And that's that for now! Next week I'll have a decision made and hopefully we'll get started on cabinetry, also!Don't forget to check out all the other hundreds of participants. Yes, hundreds of us are crazy enough to do this 6-week challenge!
