Taupe Powder Room with Vintage Art

Sometimes you just have to makeover a room a couple of times to get it right, ya know? That’s what happened with this powder room - that and white walls with little boys maybe wasn’t my wisest move? Either way, let’s take a look at how this room went from light and bright to a taupe powder room with vintage art that is warm and (maybe this is strange to say about a bathroom) cozy!

So let’s see where this started!

Two little boys made those once bright walls look SUPER dingy, and I didn’t like certain details like the faucet and towel hook.

I started by testing out new paint chips on the wall…The colour on the wall was matched by Digby Paints and is Sherwin Williams ‘Elephant Ear’ SW 9168. Did it suck painting in between a bunch of faux shiplap panels? Absolutely. I hope I never ever have to do it again!

Here’s how the final product turned out

Here are the details on the new shelving:

Shelf – I used scrap wood and leftover gel stain from Minwax in “walnut”. The brackets were also leftover from an old project and are from Home Depot.

The vase is a thrift store find I painted using Fusion Mineral Paint in ‘Putty’ – I also added a little baking soda to it!

The faux olive branches are from Lemontree + Co. and it’s GLORIOUS! Like the best faux olive branches ever ever ever. There’s only one in that vase.

The link thing I made using air-dry clay.

The linen tissue box cover is also from Lemontree + Co. It fits perfectly over the box!

The Dahlia candle is from East City Candles and the little matches container is thrifted.

About the artwork… I already had all of the frames on hand and the majority of them were thrifted. The white frame with a mat is from Ikea. For the actual prints, I went to my friends at Heritage Art Prints and chose a few that paired well together plus one seascape that I just loved! I used:

Normandy CoastThe ProfessorTake The TimeDutch Landscape II and High Seas.
