Twin Nursery Reveal [Finally!]

The-L.O.-Nursery-7.jpg

As I start writing this, a baby is waking up. Story of my life. I've managed to wash 8 bottles, load the dishwasher, eat two pieces of cold chicken, a chocolate granola bar (ok, two), and had 3 sips of my tea.Yes, this post is about me showing you the final reveal of the boys' nursery, but real life gets in the way of the pretty pictures sometimes. All the time. Every day. And I'd be a liar if I said that I'm always ok with it, so I'll tell the truth and say that I am usually, almost all the time, ok with it. Because these babies are hella cute.Alright, so let's start this thing off already! Here's what the nursery looked like when we first announced we were having two babies:IMG_6162And here it is when we started working on it for the One Room Challenge. Haha! That sentence makes me laugh because I really thought I could pull off a room makeover while renovating a bathroom, while shiplapping the entryway, and while being huge and pregnant with twins. Overachiever, much? (You can see the weeks I DID manage to get through here, here, here and here.)nursery week 4Oh and let's have a look at my inspiration for the room, shall we?Nursery mood boardBy the time the boys were born, we had managed to get this much done:Neutral Twin Nursery - The Learner ObserverThey still slept in the same crib when I took these pictures. Oh my gosh. I'm gonna cry.Neutral Twin Nursery - The Learner ObserverSince then we've added a second crib, I painted an accent wall, and we moved some furniture around.Ok, so what does this thing FINALLY look like? Well, here it is with no babies or bottles or spit up or dirty diapers. You're welcome.Neutral Twin Nursery - The Learner ObserverIt's one of my favourite rooms in the house now, and I love that it's still totally neutral - meaning, it flows well with the rest of the house.Yes, there is a gallery wall in here. I know... typical Thalita. I couldn't help it, though. The room needed some art, and I had quite a few prints that had been gifted to the boys (and that I loved), so I just HAD to do it!Neutral Twin Nursery - The Learner ObserverWe looooove the rocking chair in here. I opted not to have an upholstered glider because of space and because we have the daybed, which made most sense to us since my husband was staying home for a few months to be with me and the boys, and this way we can both use it. It's the best decision we made for this room. The boys eat, sleep and play on the bed, and we have occasionally slept in it, too!Neutral Twin Nursery - The Learner ObserverI did end up using the closet as the change table area, keeping it open to the room for now. Also a great decision that saved us because this room is fairly small (about 10x11'). The heart on the wall is made up of post-it notes that our friends wrote (in lieu of a guestbook) at the baby shower. They're filled with funny and encouraging messages that we got to read in the first couple of weeks of being home with the boys, as these were posted on diapers.Neutral Twin Nursery - The Learner ObserverNot a glamorous space, by any means (are nurseries supposed to be?), but it totally works for our life since we really tried to use every inch of space well, including the space in between the daybed and the wall which has two shelves.Neutral Twin Nursery - The Learner ObserverThe accent wall was a super easy thing to do, and you can look for a full how-to (with video) coming your way on Remodelaholic soon!Neutral Twin Nursery - The Learner ObserverDoes this room look like this all the time? Of course it does. I'm super mom. Messes do not happen in my house. No, I did not remove the rug because it had spit up all over it. No, there's no dried spit up on the floor, do you think we're animals? Oh wait... yes I did, and yes there is. Because life is messy. Like, ALL the time these days. But look at these faces. Who cares about the mess, anyway?waking upHere are the sources for everything I used in this room, in case you care:Daybed: IKEACribs: IKEADresser: IKEA (Do you see a theme, here?)Rocking chair: StructubeGrey side table: Canadian TireHamper: TargetBook shelves (actually spice racks): IKEABlack table lamp: HomesenseWindow valance: Made by mom with fabric from IKEADiaper pail: Ubbi (from Babies R Us)How to use a small room to create a twin nursery with an accent wall and changing station in the closetIf there's something else you want to know about, please never hesitate to ask!
